PLAGIARISM
Remember, as you take notes, information must be in your own words. A great way to do this is to read a paragraph, and if there is information that you would like to use, look away and write it in your own words. Notes should be just that, notes. Complete sentences need not exist until you are publishing your final draft on your ThingLink. Any words you paraphrase or copy directly must have a citation in the text. If the words are copied exactly, then quotation marks must go around them. Watch the following two videos about plagiarism to learn more about what it means to plagiarize. Quoting, Paraphrasing, & Summarizing by Lauren's the Write Way. Watch this first as it introduces you to key terms and explains the differences. How to Avoid Plagiarism-Tips for Students by Software 4 Students. Watch this second. It gives a more in depth look at what it means to plagiarize and how to avoid it. When in doubt, cite your source in your works cited and with an in text citation. To look at how to do this, check out Penn State University Libraries APA Quick Citation Guide. |
